Senior Program Officer
Sue Scherer joins the second panel as not only a Sport Canada representative but also an athlete in her own right. Two-time International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Gold medal winner, Sue was the captain of the gold-medal winning women’s Canadian hockey team for the inaugural IIHF World Women's Championship in 1990. Since this time Sue has stayed active in the sport community both professionally and personally. Sue was the head coach to the Guelph Gryphons from 1993-1996 and has also coached her own daughters.
Sue has work in a variety of sectors within the Canadian sport system in her current role as a Senior Program Office she works directly with National Sport Organizations to deliver the Government of Canada’s priority to strengthen the Canadian sport system by providing Canadians with enhanced opportunities to participate and excel in sport. To accomplish its objective Sport Canada provides funding to eligible national sport organizations through the Sport Support Program to assist our high-performance athletes to train and compete at the national and international levels.
